This is the first CD recorded by the band after Roger Waters left Pink Floyd. Work on the album A Momentary Lapse of Reason lasted from November 1986 to July 1987 in seven studios in London and Los Angeles. The main part of the material for the new album was written by David Gilmour. In addition, Gilmore took over the duties of producer. Bob Ezrin was invited to record the album as a co-producer. Unlike Pink Floyd's previous works, A Momentary Lapse of Reason is not based on any concept combining the lyrics.A Momentary Lapse of Reason rose to number three on both the US and UK charts. The album was released in the USA on June 7, 1976 by Capitol Records (catalog number SKBO 11537), in the UK on June 10, 1976 by Parlophone (catalog number PCSP 719); at that time, some media suggested that the album was released on the twentieth anniversary of the first meeting of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. If this was indeed the intention, then EMI made a mistake in their calculations, since in reality these two first met in July 1957. The album's title, Rock ’n’ Roll Music, is most likely taken from a Chuck Berry song, a version of which performed by The Beatles was included on the second side of the album.
