Blood Sugar Sex Magik is the fifth studio album by American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, released on September 24, 1991. Produced by Rick Rubin, the album became the band's first LP to be released on the Warner Bros. label. Records. Musically, the CD differed from Mother's Milk, the band's previous work: it contained much less "heavy" guitar riffs; the main themes of the songs here were sex, death and drugs, as well as lust and wealth. The album reached number three on the Billboard 200 chart, earning the band critical acclaim and international success; it sold over 13 million copies in total.

After a good start in 1975, on a wave of growing popularity, the band went to California and began work on their 3rd album at Whitney Recording Studios.
