BEATLES-A COLLECTION OF BEATLES OLDIES (STEREO)-1966-ORIGINAL PRESS 1972 JAPAN-APPLE-AP-8016. A rare Japanese edition of the iconic album. A Collection of Beatles Oldies is a collection containing a selection of songs by The Beatles recorded from 1963 to 1966. The album was released in 1966 by Parlophone in the UK and Australia, in both mono and stereo versions. It was the first official compilation of the band's greatest hits, although the Beatles did not participate in the creation of the album. The album peaked at number six on the UK Albums Chart. The album cover contributed to the myth of "Paul is dead", as in the cover illustration, the road seems to lead directly into the head of a sitting person (as if secretly hinting: "Paul died on the road, in a car accident"). ...more
