The band originally consisted of married couple Denis and Denise Lepage, who had a number one dance hit in the United States in 1981 with the song "Your Love". Lime released their debut album Your Love in 1981. The title track became a gold record and a No. 1 hit on the Billboard disco chart in the USA. It is based on T. S. Eliot's 1939 collection of poems, The Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. The musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellykles and the night they make the "Jellykles choice", deciding which cat will rise to the Heaviside layer and return to a new life. As of 2024, "Cats" remains the fifth longest-running Broadway show and the eighth longest-running show in the West End. Lloyd Webber began writing music based on Eliot's poems in 1977, and in 1980 these compositions were first presented as a song cycle. Then producer Cameron Mackintosh invited director Trevor Nunn and choreographer Gillian Lynn to turn the songs into a full-fledged musical. "Cats" received positive reviews at the New London Theatre in the West End in 1981, followed by mixed reviews at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway in 1982.
