Her first full-fledged concert in twenty years, One Voice, began as a charity performance at Streisand's house in Malibu, California on September 6, 1986. The concert was broadcast on HBO in December of the same year, and the album was released in April 1987. The album includes Streisand's only recordings of two Harold Arlen classics, Over the Rainbow and It's a New World, as well as her version of America the Beautiful. The concert and the release of the album raised millions for Democratic Party candidates and charities involved in anti-nuclear activities and environmental protection, civil liberties and human rights. ...more

The idea of Freddie Mercury involving a symphony orchestra was not realized due to lack of time, and as a result, the album was partially arranged with synthesizers and a drum machine.
