ROBERT CALVERT - CAPTAIN LOCKHEED AND THE STARFIGHTERS -1974- FIRST PRESS RELEASE UK-UNITED ARTISTS- UAG29507. A-1U/B-1U matrices. A rare British original of a cult album. The first solo album by Robert Calvert, an eccentric character who was still a full-time Hawkwind poet at that time and had not yet managed to become their full-time frontman. This is a very peculiar story album - the real story of the American Lockheed F-104 Starfighter fighter, which in the 60s was, it turns out, purchased by the West German Air Force in terrible quantities with such modifications that made the aircraft terribly emergency, as a result of which it earned the nickname "Widowmaker". Calvert is drawn here on two counts at once: firstly, he expresses his love and knowledge of military history; secondly, he demonstrates colorful sarcasm and a sense of humor. His targets, of course, are German generals (banter against Germans, as you know, is a traditional genre of British humor). The album actually resembles a radio play, in which song numbers alternate with comic skits brilliantly played by characters such as Vivian Stanshall from Bonzo Dog Band and, of course, Calvert himself. Love over Gold is the fourth studio album by British rock band Dire Straits, released on September 20, 1982 on Vertigo Records and Warner Bros. Records in the USA. The album's extensive musical compositions with long instrumental passages brings it closer in style to progressive rock. This is the last CD of the band recorded with the participation of the original drummer Peak Withers. The singles from the album, "Private Investigations", reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart, and "Industrial Disease" reached number 9 on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks. The album topped the charts in Australia, Austria, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, and the United Kingdom, and reached No. 19 in the United States. ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER- CATS (2LP'S)-1981-THE FIRST UK PRESS-POLYDOR-CATX001. A very rare British original of a cult rock opera. "Cats" is a musical musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It is based on T. S. Eliot's 1939 collection of poems, The Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. The musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellykles and the night they make the "Jellykles choice", deciding which cat will rise to the Heaviside layer and return to a new life. As of 2024, "Cats" remains the fifth longest-running Broadway show and the eighth longest-running show in the West End. Lloyd Webber began writing music based on Eliot's poems in 1977, and in 1980 these compositions were first presented as a song cycle. Then producer Cameron Mackintosh invited director Trevor Nunn and choreographer Gillian Lynn to turn the songs into a full-fledged musical. "Cats" received positive reviews at the New London Theatre in the West End in 1981, followed by mixed reviews at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway in 1982. They have won numerous awards, including the Laurence Olivier and Tony Awards for Best Musical. HAWKWIND-LEVITATION-1980-THE FIRST UK-BRONZE-BRON530 PRESS. A-3U/B-1U matrices. A rare British original by a cult prog band. Levitation is the tenth studio album by the English rock band Hawkwind, released in 1980. It reached number 21 on the UK Albums Chart. During the album's release, bandleader Dave Brock stated, "With Levitation, we returned to the style of our debut album. And it was a record that fully expressed our ideals and what we fought for."  This is their first studio album since the departure of lead vocalist and lyricist Robert Calvert, and the lyrics here are usually superficial, and the number of instrumental parts is increased. It is also Hawkwind's only studio album to feature former Cream drummer Ginger Baker, and the first for former Gong keyboardist Tim Blake, who later rejoined the band and played on the 2010 album Blood of the Earth. ...more

A rare American original of the queen of soul disco. Bad Girls is the seventh studio album by American singer-songwriter Donna Summer, released on April 25, 1979 on the label Casablanca Records. Originally released as a double album, Bad Girls became the best-selling and most critically acclaimed album of Summer's career. In addition, it was her last studio album on the label Casablanca Records. Bad Girls reached the top of the US Billboard 200 chart, where it lasted six weeks. Bad Girls received universal acclaim and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) just a week after its release. At the 1980 Grammy Awards, Bad Girls was nominated for Album of the Year, and Hot Stuff was nominated for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. In addition, "Bad Girls" was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Female R/B Vocal Performance, while "Dim All the Lights" was nominated for Best Disco Recording. Bad Girls is considered one of the greatest disco albums.
